Text

Isaac is the son of Abraham and Sarah in Genesis. Chapter 22 names him in the sacrifice command: he carries the wood, asks about the animal, is spared and a ram is offered in his place. The chapter gives no numerical age and does not narrate his death followed by resurrectionResurrection of the deadThe dead returning to life, distinguished from soul immortality, with differing scope and form among texts.Glossary · Click to read the explanation. In Qur'an 37 the son is unnamed within the dream and ransom scene; Isaac is explicitly named later, in verse 112. The difference prompted later interpretation, but an interpreter's choice should not be inserted into the Qur'anic scene itself. Rembrandt's 1645 etching depicts the father-son exchange as later artistic reception. [2][3]
