Privacy and visit statistics

We use limited data to understand readership and improve the archive experience.

What does a visit record?

When statistics are enabled, we store a random session for this site, pages opened and their opening times, estimated visible reading time, IP address, device type, browser, operating system, language, approximate viewport size, and the time zone reported by the browser. The referring site’s name is stored if available.

We do not record form fields, search terms, or passwords, request GPS, or use browser fingerprinting. A session is not an account or proof of identity; it ends after 30 minutes of inactivity.

Retention and access

Full IP addresses, session details, and page paths are retained without an expiry period or automatic deletion. A session ending after inactivity does not delete its saved record. This data is private to the archive administrator and is not public or searchable. Retention settings can be changed in administration; any change is reflected here.

Country estimation

The country is determined using a local database. If unavailable, only the IP address is sent over HTTPS to ipwho.is, with country.is as a fallback. Reading paths, device information, and session identifiers are not sent. This estimates the network’s location and may differ from the reader’s location.

Your choice

You can disable statistics for this browser. We also honor Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals sent by the browser. The preference cookie remembers your choice for 180 days; the session cookie is random and specific to this site.

Statistics are enabled for public visits.

Disabling deletes any saved details of the current session and prevents recording future visits from this browser.
