Text
Ephesus is an ancient city near present-day Selçuk in western TürkiyeTurkeyTurkey is a modern country including Anatolia and territory in southeastern EuropeGlossary · Click to read the explanation. It flourished under Roman rule and became an early Christian centre; its remains include the Library of Celsus and the Church of Mary. Traditions of the Seven Sleepers became associated with the city, but this literary association alone does not locate the cave in which the story takes place. A photograph of the library shows a Roman-period monument as seen today, not the time of the story or its cave. [1] [2]
