Documentary hypothesis
A reference page linking a name, group, or concept to the materials that discuss it.
Model explaining the Torah through combined sources such as J, E, D and P. Boundaries, dating and editing are debated alongside supplementary models.
Text
Proposal
Hypothetical sources are combined to explain repetitions and differences in language, law and narrative. J, E, D and P are scholarly labels, not four discovered independent original manuscripts.[1]
Limits
Modern documentary and supplementary approaches compete. A compositional history need not entail one agreed chronology of sources.[2] The image compares models; it is not a certain reconstruction of the originals.
