Entity
Kinsman-Redeemer in Ruth
A reference page linking a name, group, or concept to the materials that discuss it.
A relative exercising a family property-redemption right in Ruth 4; he need not be the deceased husband’s brother.
Text
Ruth 4 links redemption of Naomi’s field, marriage to Ruth and preservation of the deceased’s name on his inheritance. A nearer kinsman yields his right and Boaz acts as redeemer, but he is not Mahlon’s brother. The sandal attests a transfer, unlike the widow’s removal of the refusing brother’s sandal with spitting in Deuteronomy 25. [1][3]
