Text
Herod the Great ruled Judaea about 37–4 BCE. Nativity narratives present him as a danger leading the family toward Egypt. His historical identity and the narrative's depiction are distinct: identifying a ruler does not independently verify every episode in the story. [1]
References and notes
- Only the specified source portion was read, not the entire work. Met Heilbrunn essay section on the Nativity read for Herod's conventional 37–4 BCE reign and his role in the Gospel narrative; this is a summary of the biblical account, not independent proof of the massacre. Return to the text ↑
