Text
Vespasian was a Roman ruler who founded the Flavian dynasty and reigned from 69 to 79 CE. Josephus lived in the same Roman period and places Vespasian among those present for an exorcism he reports by a Jewish man named Eleazar in Antiquities of the Jews. [1][2]
Vespasian's presence in Josephus's report places the claimed encounter in a first-century CE setting. It does not date every part of the text's composition or independently verify every detail of the reported scene. [2]
