Demiurge
A reference page linking a name, group, or concept to the materials that discuss it.
Maker or organizer of the world in the Timaeus; not automatically a creator from nothing.
Text
A Greek term used in the Timaeus for the good maker who orders the world by an intelligible model. Goodness and the model explain cosmic arrangement in the account, distinguishing what changes from its stable exemplar. [1]
This entry does not impose one identity on every later demiurge or conflate PlatoPlatoGreek philosopher; the Timaeus’s maker differs from later religious conceptions of God.Glossary · Click to read the explanation’s maker with varied Gnostic positions. Disputed temporal interpretations also prevent simply treating the account as complete biblical creation doctrine. The illustration is a modern comparison, not a depiction of an ancient figure.
