Textual criticism
A reference page linking a name, group, or concept to the materials that discuss it.
Comparing witnesses to explain variation and infer earlier readings or editions, distinguishing preserved from reconstructed text.
Text
Textual criticism examines manuscripts, translations, context and transmission practices. Not every difference is an error nor every older reading better; shorter/harder-reading rules require case-specific testing. [1]
Targets may be a reading, common ancestor or literary edition: different objectives. HBCE presents earliest inferable text with arguments; decisions and certainty remain debatable. The diagram is methodological, not a proven genealogy. [2]
