Entity
Ritual removal
A reference page linking a name, group, or concept to the materials that discuss it.
Analytical term for removing what is considered harmful or polluting from communal or sacred space; transfer, expulsion and slaughter are distinct functions.
Text
In Leviticus 16 the living goat carries iniquities outside after confession over its head. This does not make every animal sent away elsewhere a bearer of moral sins or a sacrifice. Identify what is removed, its sender, the means, destination and bearer’s fate before equating rites. The image is a later artistic reading of Leviticus’s goat, not a model for all rites. [1][13][14]
